Philip Roholt, MD, ABES

Refractive & Lens Implant Surgery
Philip C. Roholt, MD in Canton, Oh received his undergraduate and Medical Degree training at the University of Minnesota. He was awarded a fellowship in Surgical Pathology, spending a year in research on arterial injury.  His ophthalmology residency was at the University of Florida.

Dr. Roholt began his career as an eye surgeon with the intention of building the premier refractive surgery/lens implant practice in the Midwest. He has been among the vanguard of refractive surgery advancements in the United States, involved in the incisional treatments for myopia prior to introducing LASIK to NE Ohio. He was the first eye doctor in Northeast Ohio to perform ALK (Automated Lamellar Keratectomy) for myopia and hyperopia. He received an AAO “Best Paper” award for his study of corneal lamellar surgery in the ’90’s, even prior to the introduction of LASIK to the US. He has spoken internationally as an invited speaker concerning Ultrasound testing for the Visian ICL™ and electronic lens implants.  His interests in LASIK, Phakic (Visian ICL™) and electronic lenses have led to patents and publications in ophthalmic journals.

Dr. Roholt is an Associate Professor with Ohio State University, and assists Dr. Mathie in the Optometry Externship training program.

Since 2001, the Roholt Vision Institute’s primary mission is to continue the advancement of quality refractive, LASIK, lens implant and cataract surgery. Dr. Roholt along with associates Mathie, Kubis, Celmer, Wohl and Young provide consultation/ management of all eye diseases.

Dr. Roholt was named “Ophthalmologist of the Year” by the ORSS in 1999. He has partnered with Marine ReachVision Outreach International, Surgical Eye Expeditions, and Cross Eyed Missions in mission trips to Fiji and Central America.

Dr. Roholt loves to be with his wife and has four children.  He enjoys participating in the worship team at Alliance Christian Center. He relaxes with tennis, skiing, and flying.

Meagan O. Celmer, M.D.

Refractive, Lens Implant & Corneal transplant surgery
Dr. Meagan O. Celmer earned her undergraduate degree from John Carroll University where she graduated with Cum Laude honors. After obtaining her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Celmer completed her residency at the Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Celmer then proceeded on with her education and completed a Cornea/Refractive fellowship at the University of Tennessee affiliated Wang Vision Institute in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Celmer, being a cornea-refractive sub-specialist, is superbly trained in LASIK, premium intra-ocular lens in-plants, as well as corneal disorders. She is well versed in the art of Keratoconus therapy, Corneal cross-linking and corneal transplantation techniques.

Dr. Celmer has done corneal cross linking research at one of the few FDA approved sites. Additionally, she has presented some research concerning the treatment of post LASIK patients and multi-focal intra-ocular lenses at national meetings. More importantly, her peers and mentors have found her to be a talented and discerning eye doctor with a superb bedside manner.

Thomas Wohl, M.D.

Refractive & Lens Implant Surgery
Dr. Thomas Wohl is an experienced cataract and LASIK surgeon, and his knowledge of eye care also extends to the treatment of many other eye conditions including glaucoma, retinal vascular disease, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Dr. Wohl has initiated a Retina Clinic at Roholt Vision Institute to treat patients with macular degeneration and other retina problems.

Dr. Wohl, a recipient of Duke University’s prestigious Angier B Duke Scholarship, achieved undergraduate degrees in both Physics and English Literature.  He then attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, graduating first in his class.  He was awarded the Peter T. Kilgour Prize for work and character in the field of medicine.

He completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of California, San Francisco and later served three years as Chief of Ophthalmology Services at the Mather Air Force Base Hospital in Sacramento. Dr. Wohl was honored with the Meritorious Service Medal for his active duty accomplishments in that role.

Dr. Wohl has been recognized throughout his career for his contributions to patient care and to the community at large. A father of two, Dr. Wohl has been involved in promoting children’s writing and literacy and has been a favorite speaker to both medical and community senior citizen groups.

Jason Young, M.D.

Refractive & Lens Implant Surgery
Dr. Young joined Roholt Vision Institute after completing his ophthalmology residency at Indiana University School of Medicine where he was recognized as the 2021 Resident of the Year. His specialties include premium cataract surgery – including astigmatism correction and multifocal implants – refractive surgery, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

The Ohio native received his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. During his tenure, Dr. Young also completed a year-long research fellowship in ophthalmology at the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute. Prior to medical school, Dr. Young graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from The Ohio State University with a degree in neuroscience.

Dr. Young is honored to have joined Roholt Vision Institute as they are a leader in cutting-edge technology. Growing up in Northeast, Ohio, Dr. Young is extremely grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that has already given him so much.

Brian E. Mathie, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Clinic Director
Dr. Brian Mathie has a long history of providing technologically advanced, personalized and compassionate care for the patients of Northeast Ohio. After graduating first in his class at Louisville High School, he attended Ohio State University and studied microbiology in the honors program. He is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Optometry and completed a residency specializing in ocular disease at the Columbus and Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Centers.

Dr. Mathie is keenly aware of the fact that the word doctor derives from a Latin word meaning “to teach”. From educating patients about various ocular conditions to lecturing to other eye care providers nationally and internationally on the topics of ocular disease or refractive surgery, Dr. Mathie appreciates the value of knowledge and enjoys sharing it with others. He is an adjunct faculty member with the Ohio State University College of Optometry and a past senior examiner for the National Board of Optometry Clinical Examinations. He served as president of the Ohio Optometric Association in 2004 and served on several national committees for the AOA. His extensive experience in treating glaucoma, dry eye disease, ocular infections and inflammation, and managing cataract and refractive surgery patients allows for thorough patient explanations.

Dr. Mathie was named the 2010 Ohio Optometrist of the Year by the Ohio Optometric Association. Chosen from more than 2000 optometrists statewide, Dr. Mathie received the award “for outstanding contributions to the profession of optometry and public service”. He is currently on the board of Cross Eyed Missions and has participated as part of that outstanding organization during numerous mission trips to provide eyecare and spectacles to needy people across the globe. Roholt Vision Institute is happy to accept your used glasses to share with those less fortunate throughout the world.

Dr. Mathie also appreciates the value of serving his community in nonmedical avenues as he has been involved in Rotary (past president), YMCA board member, active parishioner, and Sunday school teacher, youth sports coach and school volunteer. Dr. Mathie’s hobbies include golf, tennis, basketball, pickle ball, photography and spending quality family time with his wife Tonda, children, grandkids and his large extended family.

Bradley R. Kubis, O.D.

Dr. Brad Kubis, a native of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, attended Bethany College in West Virginia where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. At Bethany, Dr. Kubis was also a four-year member of the baseball team. He received his degree in Optometry from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in May 2017 graduating with Cum Laude distinction.

Dr. Kubis enjoys the profession of optometry and has a special interest in treatment and management of ocular disease, specialty contact lens fittings for patients with keratoconus or myopia control in younger patients as well as providing vision care for patients of all ages.

Dr. Kubis enjoys spending time with his wife, Tiffany, who also shares a love of optometry, and his  three children. He also enjoys spending time outdoors, watching football, golfing, and playing baseball.

Dr. Kubis is pleased to be part of an eye care team that emphasizes quality patient care, utilizing advanced technology to achieve the best results possible for their patients.
